The Parlour
By Ali, The Foodie Connoisseur UK · 3 min read
My wife and I recently enjoyed a lovely Classic Afternoon Tea at The Parlour, located inside the prestigious Great Scotland Yard Hotel in Westminster, London. Just a short walk from Trafalgar Square, this elegant venue offers a wonderful setting for traditional afternoon tea in central London. We wanted to spend quality time together, enjoying good food, tea, and a relaxed atmosphere, and The Parlour delivered. What made our visit particularly memorable, however, was the exceptional hospitality from Leonardo and Avalyn, who genuinely made us feel special.
From the moment we arrived, The Parlour impressed us with its refined surroundings and welcoming atmosphere. The interior beautifully combines the heritage of the historic Great Scotland Yard Hotel with modern elegance. Comfortable seating, tasteful décor, and gentle lighting create a sophisticated yet relaxed environment. The calm atmosphere lets you settle in, enjoy a conversation, and appreciate the experience without feeling rushed. For anyone looking for an elegant afternoon tea experience in Westminster, the setting alone makes The Parlour worth considering.
We chose the Classic Afternoon Tea, which offered an interesting balance of savoury creations, freshly prepared baked treats and beautifully presented desserts. The savoury selection included smoked salmon with lemon crème fraîche on malted bread, crispy chicken on brioche with caviar, and cheddar mousse with apple and tomato chutney on a parmesan biscuit. We also enjoyed the mini Yorkshire puddings with caramelised onions and Stilton blue cheese, alongside the pumpkin and spinach tart topped with caramelised pumpkin seeds. Each item brought a different combination of flavours and textures, making the selection varied and enjoyable.
The scones and brioche provided a lovely transition towards the sweeter part of the afternoon tea. We were served a traditional plain scone and cinnamon-bun brioche, served with fig and blackberry jam. It was a pleasant variation on the usual afternoon tea selection.
The desserts were particularly imaginative, with names inspired by the hotel's Scotland Yard heritage. The Investigator featured a Baileys, coffee, and hazelnut entremet, while The Secret Evidence paired Earl Grey and pear in a delicate tea cake. The Pocket Watch brought together vanilla and toffee apple shortbread, and the Missing Diamond featured spiced pumpkin hot chocolate. These creative touches added personality to the presentation and made the experience feel distinctive. We also appreciated the excellent variety of teas available, which gave us plenty of choice to accompany the different courses.
A special thank you must go to Leonardo and Avalyn, whose wonderful service was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our visit. Both were welcoming, attentive, and professional, making us feel comfortable and genuinely cared for throughout our afternoon. Their warm hospitality and thoughtful approach greatly enhanced our enjoyment. Good service can elevate any dining experience, and Leonardo and Avalyn certainly demonstrated that during our visit. The Parlour is an excellent choice for couples looking for a relaxing afternoon together, friends celebrating an occasion, or visitors seeking memorable afternoon tea near Trafalgar Square. Its central location, elegant surroundings and carefully considered menu make it particularly appealing for a leisurely afternoon.
Overall, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our Classic Afternoon Tea at The Parlour. The combination of beautifully presented food, an extensive tea selection, charming surroundings and, most importantly, outstanding service made this a memorable experience. We would happily return and recommend it to anyone visiting Westminster. Halal options were available.
