A Taste of Italy in Maida Vale | Creators Table at Little Red Pepper

Tucked away on Formosa Street, close to the picturesque Little Venice in Maida Vale, Little Red Pepper is a charming neighbourhood Italian restaurant where good food and warm hospitality bring people together. We spent a wonderful evening here with family and friends, enjoying authentic Italian food in Maida Vale, sharing delicious dishes and catching up over meaningful conversations. It was the perfect setting for a relaxed gathering, with a welcoming atmosphere that made the evening feel particularly special. Little Red Pepper has been part of the Maida Vale neighbourhood since 1994, serving the local community for over three decades. What makes this restaurant particularly interesting is its original wood-fired pizza oven, which has been in use since the very beginning and was one of London's first wood-fired pizza ovens. It remains at the heart of the kitchen, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to traditional Italian cooking. The atmosphere feels warm, intimate and informal, with a comfortable neighbourhood character that encourages guests to settle in, take their time and enjoy the company around the table. We began with a lovely selection of starters, including the Burrata Fresh, featuring beautifully creamy burrata served with baby plum tomatoes, fresh basil and aged balsamic. The combination was fresh, delicate and full of flavour. We also enjoyed the Polenta & Funghi, a comforting dish of baked cornmeal with Taleggio cheese and wild mushrooms. The cheese's richness paired beautifully with the earthy mushrooms, making it a particularly satisfying starter. The wood-fired pizzas were naturally a highlight of our Italian dining experience near Little Venice. Everyone chose something different, giving us the opportunity to appreciate the variety on the menu. The Diavola combined tomato sauce, fior di latte mozzarella, and spicy spianata, while the Napoli offered a more savoury mix of anchovies, Taggiasche olives, capers, and oregano. My friend tried the Bufalina, generously topped with Parma ham, wild rocket, fresh buffalo mozzarella, and cherry tomatoes. My children thoroughly enjoyed their classic Margherita, with tomato sauce, fior di latte, buffalo mozzarella and basil. I chose the restaurant's signature Little Red Pepper pizza, topped with red peppers, fresh herbs, and garlic. The wood-fired cooking brought everything together, with the traditional pizza base providing the perfect foundation for the fresh toppings. Dessert was another memorable part of the evening, especially Roberta's homemade tiramisu, made with the same family recipe since 1994. A wonderful example of how simple Italian desserts can become something special through tradition and consistency. If you enjoy tiramisu, this is definitely one to order. The hospitality deserves particular mention. Chef Eugene kindly welcomed us behind the scenes for a glimpse into the kitchen, giving us a closer appreciation of the work behind the food. Roberta and her lovely team looked after us throughout the evening, creating a relaxed and friendly experience. Their genuine warmth added a personal touch that made our visit even more enjoyable. For anyone looking for a family-friendly Italian restaurant in Maida Vale, Little Red Pepper is a lovely choice. It works equally well for a family dinner, an evening with friends or a relaxed meal as a couple. The welcoming setting, varied pizza selection and traditional Italian dishes make it appealing across generations. After more than 30 years, Little Red Pepper continues to celebrate the simple pleasures of Italian dining: good food, longstanding traditions and people coming together around a table. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and would happily return. A heartfelt thank you to Chef Eugene, Roberta and the entire team for their wonderful hospitality, and special thanks to Reza for kindly hosting us and bringing everyone together for another memorable evening.
