Peter Pan Afternoon Tea at Aqua Shard: A Magical Family Adventure Above London
What if your next family afternoon tea involved a missing golden hook, a spooky treasure hunt through London and a magical dining experience 31 floors above the capital? That's exactly what awaited us during our recent family visit to Aqua Shard, on Level 31 of the iconic Shard building at London Bridge. Famous for its spectacular panoramic views and contemporary British dining, Aqua Shard offers a Peter Pan-themed afternoon tea that brings the enchanting world of Neverland to life. With Halloween approaching, the restaurant had introduced a special Captain Hook-inspired experience, combining its popular afternoon tea with a limited-time haunted treasure hunt across London. For our family, it promised to be something a little different from the traditional afternoon tea experience.
Captain Hook's Haunted Trail: A Spooky London Adventure
Our Neverland adventure began with Captain Hook's Haunted Trail, a Halloween-themed treasure hunt running from 26 October to 8 November 2026. The storyline was wonderfully imaginative. The mischievous Lost Boys stole Captain Hook's precious golden hook and hid it somewhere in London. Families were challenged to follow a series of mysterious clues, uncover historic secrets and solve the mystery before Captain Hook caught up with them. The trail took participants through some of London's fascinating historic locations, including The Clink Prison and Traitor's Gate at the Tower of London. It was an entertaining way to combine London's history with the familiar characters and adventures of Peter Pan. They even promised a secret prize for those who completed the challenge. What particularly appealed to us was the opportunity to turn an afternoon tea booking into a wider family outing, giving the children something interactive to enjoy before heading to the restaurant.
Afternoon Tea With Spectacular Views of London

After our Neverland adventure, it was time to head up to Aqua Shard on Level 31. One of the first things that strikes you when visiting is the incredible view. Floor-to-ceiling windows reveal sweeping panoramas of London's skyline, making the experience feel special before the food even arrives. The restaurant provides an elegant yet welcoming setting, making it equally suitable for a family celebration, a special occasion or simply an afternoon spent together. What made our visit particularly memorable was the care the team took with our dietary requirements. As we follow a halal diet, we appreciated how thoughtfully the restaurant accommodated our needs, preparing a halal-friendly version of the Peter Pan Afternoon Tea without compromising on its presentation or variety. It was reassuring to see that we could enjoy the themed experience together as a family.
A Neverland-Inspired Savoury Selection

Our afternoon tea began with a beautifully presented selection of savoury creations, each inspired by the magical world of Neverland. The Enchanted Forest Tart combined sweet potato, cheddar, fig and pine nuts. It offered a lovely balance of sweetness and savoury flavours, with the fig complementing the richness of the cheese. Another interesting creation was Neverland Lagoon, featuring confit salmon and smoked caviar. The salmon had a delicate richness, while the smoked caviar added a distinctive savoury finish. We also enjoyed a selection of traditional finger sandwiches, including classic cheddar, egg mayonnaise with watercress, and lightly spiced confit chicken with mustard mayonnaise served on red pepper bread. The chicken sandwich was particularly enjoyable, with gentle spice and creamy mustard mayonnaise providing a welcome contrast to the soft bread. The selection varied, combining familiar afternoon tea favourites with more imaginative dishes.
Freshly Baked Scones and Traditional Afternoon Tea Treats

Of course, no British afternoon tea would feel complete without freshly baked scones. We were served both vanilla and raisin scones, accompanied by rich clotted cream and two interesting preserves. The gooseberry and elderflower jam provided a delicate fruity flavour, while the morello cherry and raspberry jam offered a slightly sharper sweetness. There is something comforting about a warm scone topped with clotted cream and jam, particularly when enjoyed with a freshly brewed cup of tea and London's skyline stretching out before you. A full selection of teas was available, so we could choose our preferred accompaniment throughout the afternoon.
Magical Desserts Inspired by Peter Pan

The sweet selection brought the Peter Pan theme to life. Each dessert had been designed around the characters and magical adventures of Neverland, with imaginative names and interesting flavour combinations. Tinkerbell's Tart featured cookie dough and raspberry, pairing rich sweetness with a refreshing fruity element. Captain Hook's Battenburg offered an interesting interpretation of the traditional British cake. It combined poppy seed sponge with apricot jam and smoked coconut icing, creating layers of contrasting flavours and textures. Perhaps the most unusual creation was You Can Fly!, a dessert featuring milk chocolate mousse, yuzu crème and pickled mushroom. The combination might sound unexpected, but the contrast between creamy chocolate, citrus and the savoury element made it one of the more adventurous desserts on the menu. The attention to detail throughout the sweet selection showed how much thought went into creating an experience that would appeal to adults and children alike.
Wonderful Hospitality at Aqua Shard
An afternoon tea experience is about more than the food, particularly when visiting somewhere special with your family. The hospitality throughout our visit was excellent, and the team made us feel genuinely welcome. A special thank you goes to Simon, Doni, and Kaylem, who looked after us during our afternoon. Their friendly, attentive service made the experience even more enjoyable. We particularly appreciated the effort taken to accommodate our halal dietary requirements, allowing everyone in our family to enjoy the occasion.
Is the Peter Pan Afternoon Tea at Aqua Shard Worth Visiting?
For families looking for a memorable afternoon tea in London, Aqua Shard offers something different from the traditional experience. The Peter Pan theme adds fun and creativity, while the Level 31 setting offers some of the most recognisable views across the capital. We enjoyed how the experience brought everything together. We had the opportunity to explore London through Captain Hook's Haunted Trail, enjoy an imaginative afternoon tea and spend quality time as a family. The combination of well-presented food, thoughtful hospitality and a memorable location made it a lovely family outing. If you have children who enjoy Peter Pan, or simply appreciate a themed afternoon tea with a view, Aqua Shard is worth considering. For us, it was a wonderful afternoon filled with food, family time and a little Neverland magic.
