Residenza delle Città Milan Review: A Perfect Family Stay Near Milano Centrale

A spacious Deluxe Apartment, excellent transport connections and delicious neighbourhood pizza made Residenza delle Città a great base for our family adventure in Milan.

When planning a family city break, choosing the right accommodation can make all the difference. Travelling with two children means we always look for somewhere comfortable, spacious and well-connected, especially when exploring a busy European city like Milan. During our family visit to Milan, we stayed at Residenza delle Città, a stylish apartment-style residence conveniently located near Milano Centrale railway station. Rather than booking a traditional hotel room, we chose a Deluxe Apartment, which gave us the extra space and flexibility that made travelling as a family of four much easier. What made this property particularly appealing was its location. With excellent transport connections, shops and restaurants nearby, it offered a practical base for exploring Milan while giving us somewhere comfortable to return to after a busy day.

A Fantastic Location Near Milano Centrale

One of the biggest advantages of staying at Residenza delle Città is its proximity to Milano Centrale, Milan's main railway station. The property is about 600 metres from the station, a 10-minute walk depending on your pace. When travelling as a family, particularly with suitcases, this convenience is a major advantage. Milano Centrale is a major transport hub, offering connections to other Italian cities such as Venice, Florence, and Rome, as well as regional destinations, including Lake Como. The station also provides convenient airport connections. For families planning to explore more of northern Italy, this location makes Residenza delle Città particularly attractive. Another benefit is the nearby metro network. Caiazzo station is a short walk away, while Loreto station provides access to Line M1, making it straightforward to reach some of Milan's most popular attractions. The famous Duomo di Milano, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the city's main shopping areas are all accessible using public transport. We also liked being close to Corso Buenos Aires, one of Milan's best-known shopping streets, with plenty of shops, cafés and places to eat. For us, having good transport connections nearby made exploring the city much more manageable, especially with the children.

Our Deluxe Apartment: Space, Comfort and Convenience

We stayed in one of the property's Deluxe Apartments, which offers approximately 45 to 50 square metres of accommodation. We've come to appreciate extra space when travelling with children. Traditional hotel rooms can sometimes feel cramped, particularly when everyone has their own luggage and belongings. The apartment-style layout gave us the flexibility to enjoy our time together without feeling restricted to a single hotel bedroom. The interiors combine contemporary design with a comfortable, residential feel. Wooden flooring, modern furnishings and plenty of natural light give the accommodation a welcoming atmosphere. The Deluxe Apartments come with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, television facilities and tea and coffee-making equipment. Each apartment also includes a kitchenette, which is particularly useful for families. Having access to kitchen facilities is a welcome addition during a city break. Whether preparing a quick breakfast, keeping drinks chilled or enjoying a snack after a long day of sightseeing, these small conveniences can make a real difference. What we particularly liked about choosing an apartment rather than a conventional hotel room was the freedom it provided. We could enjoy Milan at our own pace, return for a break and have a comfortable space to relax together. For families travelling with older children, that additional room can be worth considering when choosing accommodation.

The Benefits of an Apartment-Style Hotel

Residenza delle Città offers an interesting alternative to a traditional Milan hotel. The property occupies a former industrial building converted into a contemporary residence, blending its original character with modern accommodation. It also offers facilities useful for both short city breaks and longer stays, including a fitness centre, laundry facilities, luggage storage, and reception support. Grab a coffee before you leave from the free coffee machine. Unlike a full-service hotel, the focus here is on providing guests with comfortable, independent accommodation. For us, this style of accommodation works particularly well during family holidays. We enjoy spending most of the day exploring, visiting attractions and sampling local food, so having a spacious apartment to return to suits the way we travel. It also offers a degree of independence that can be useful when everyone's schedule differs slightly.

A Fantastic Neighbourhood Pizzeria: Da Ciccio & Paolo

No family trip to Italy would be complete without enjoying some authentic Italian pizza! One of the food highlights around our accommodation was Da Ciccio & Paolo, a neighbourhood pizzeria conveniently located close to Residenza delle Città. One of the pleasures of travelling in Italy is coming across local restaurants away from the main tourist attractions, and this is exactly the kind of place we enjoy finding. Da Ciccio & Paolo specialises in Neapolitan-style pizzas, with a menu featuring traditional favourites such as Margherita, Bufala, Napoli and Parmigiana, alongside a variety of other toppings. The classic Margherita combines tomato, mozzarella, fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil, showcasing the simple ingredients that make Italian pizza so enjoyable. Pizza For families staying nearby, having a good local pizzeria within walking distance is a real bonus. After a long day exploring Milan, sometimes all you want is a relaxed meal without travelling across the city. With Milan offering everything from fine dining restaurants to neighbourhood trattorias and pizzerias, eating locally is an important part of experiencing the city. Da Ciccio & Paolo is a place I would recommend looking up if you're staying in the Milano Centrale area and fancy a proper Italian pizza.

Exploring Milan as a Family

Milan is often associated with fashion, luxury shopping and business, but there is plenty to enjoy as a family. The magnificent Duomo di Milano is one of the city's main attractions. Its impressive Gothic architecture dominates the central square, making it an essential stop during any first visit. Just a short walk away is the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, with its elegant glass dome, luxury boutiques and historic cafés. For families who enjoy walking and exploring, the streets surrounding the Duomo offer plenty of opportunities to appreciate Milan's architecture, browse shops and stop for a gelato. Other places worth considering include Sforza Castle, Parco Sempione and the Navigli canal district, known for its waterside restaurants and lively atmosphere. Residenza delle Città is a practical base because you can explore different parts of Milan by metro, rather than relying on taxis throughout your stay. And with Milano Centrale so close, it is equally convenient if your Italian holiday includes visits to other destinations.

Would We Recommend Residenza delle Città for Families?

For families looking for accommodation in Milan, I think Residenza delle Città is well worth considering, particularly if location, space and convenience are high on your list of priorities. Our decision to stay in a Deluxe Apartment suited our requirements as a family of four. The apartment facilities and extra space made it a practical choice for our city break. Its proximity to Milano Centrale was one of the biggest selling points. Being able to access trains, metro services, shopping streets and neighbourhood restaurants without travelling far from the accommodation made planning our days easier. And, of course, having Da Ciccio & Paolo nearby for some delicious Italian pizza was another welcome advantage! If you're planning a family holiday in Milan, especially one involving train travel or day trips around northern Italy, Residenza delle Città offers a good balance of comfort, independence and accessibility. Sometimes, choosing the right place to stay is less about having a long list of luxury facilities and more about finding somewhere that genuinely works for your family. For our Milan adventure, Residenza delle Città offered exactly the type of accommodation we were looking for.
